MACINTOSH MONDAY

Unfortunately this post needs to be started with some rather disappointing news; Macintosh has finally mellowed! Its true. He is now almost 2 years old and that combined with the heat has meant that he has now become a very ordinary dog. In the last week there has been no crazy antics, no insane puppy moments and no bad behaviour. The worst he's done is laid down on a dog walk and refused to move until I started dragging him and he soon realised it would hurt. That's it though, that is the sum total of his mischief! How boring is that?!

Now having said all that, it may be boring for you guys and for the sake of the blog but I have to say that being his owner I'm rather enjoying it for now! It's lovely to have a dog laying around by your feet all chilled out who doesn't destroy things the second you put them down! It's great to have him simply wander up to you for some affection and then wander away a bit later and leave you to get on with whatever needs doing. I can have naps in the day now without worrying that whilst I sleep he will wreak havoc! It's amazing! But yes deep down I know it'll get boring after a while. So soon enough I'll be forcing him to do something silly just so that I have some interest I guess!

For today though I have to tell you about something funny that happens here with the other dogs that Macintosh just doesn't get! Now Macintosh as a beagle should howl and bay but he doesn't. He is the most silent dog you will ever meet. He never really barks or makes any kind of noise unless he's playing with a toy. However all the dogs around here bark at the top of their lungs constantly and they go especially mad whenever he walks past them, only for him to carry on walking without a sound.

In America we have discovered that whenever an emergency services vehicle is driving past in an emergency it will have its sirens going constantly, regardless of whether there is any traffic on the road or not. Now this is quite an event in our neighbourhood as whenever a vehicle goes past all the local dogs begin to howl as loudly as they can. When they are all howling it can be quite loud and sounds hilarious! They will carry on howling too long after the vehicle has passed which just keeps Andrew and I in stitches.

Mac's response. Well its this.

Yup that's it. He may twitch an ear and look puzzled but that's it. Not a sound from him. Nada. Nothing. And no amount of howling from Andrew or I can produce a howl out of him. It just ends up with us feeling silly and him looked even more puzzled. I think we bought a broken beagle...
